Pumas follow up opening day win with an impressive victory
After a below par performance on the opening day Pumas were determined to put in a performance against former Division 1 side Noah’s Ark.
On a very small pitch Pumas started the game well putting Noah’s on the back foot early. Adam Hurrell getting a first start linked up with Jordan Smith well before the latter struck his shot over the bar with his left foot.
Further chances were to come early on with Wilson Coupe twice going close, firstly with a header from a long throw shortly followed by a left foot volley which flew comfortably over.
Noah’s did threaten from a long range free kick but in the end it was dealt with fairly comfortably by the confident Corey Hawksworth.
Then the goals started to come, Jordan Smith with a long throw into the area flicked on at the front post by Luke Mitchell pocked home by Matt Cowen.
It wasn’t long until Pumas were 2-0 up, the impressive Luke Mitchell with a strong challenge at the back allowed Adam Hurrell to sprint clear before feeding Cowen to finish with his left foot.
Only a couple of minutes after the same combination that created the first goal was at it again. A long throw by Jordan Smith, headed on by Luke Mitchell, headed home by Matt Cowen inside 6 yards. A hat-trick inside 30 minutes.
Pumas wasn’t finished there, a long kick by Corey Hawksworth wasn’t dealt with by the Noah’s defence which left James Saxelby to tap home for his first of the season.
4-0 at halftime time
The tempo of the game slowed after half time & Pumas controlled the game in long patches. Half time substitute Chris Cottyn had a couple of chances to add to the score line but it stayed the same until 15 minutes from time.
A long chipped ball by man of the match Jordan Smith found Matt Cowen & after the keeper hesitated he headed over the top to pick up his 4th of the day & 6 in 2 games.
An impressive win for the Pumas against a side relegated from division 1 last season. Really good performances throughout including league debuts for Luke Mitchell & Adam Hurrell.
